Nica 09: From Pacific to Atlantic

Each year the Recurso trip directors organize a service trip to Nicaragua. It takes nearly the entire school year to plan the itinerary, recruit volunteers, fundraise, collect donations, book rooms and flights, make contacts, and then manage everything while in Nicaragua! For the past few years, roughly 25 to 30 volunteers have gone to Nicaragua. They make their way starting in Managua, the capital city on the Pacific coast, to Puerto Cabezas, a rural town on the Atlantic coast. Over the years, Recurso has made lasting friendships and partnerships with several individuals and organizations in the country. These relationships we have in Nicaragua have been a great source of strength for the service trip, and support the sustainablilty of the work that we do there.

Right now, the 2009 service trip is well underway. So while we wait for the trip participants' return to hear the stories (which are always memorable!), here's a video of some of the projects from the 2007 service trip.

Lets Talk

Welcome to Recurso's first blog!

I'm Nila, the president for the 2009-10 academic year, and I started this blog so all of the Recurso directors, consejeros, and eboard members could have an effective tool to engage each other and the UF community. We are all passionate, informed, thoughtful, and opinionated -- so what better way to keep each other updated, than on the web?

Did you watch a really thought provoking film?
Is there a book we should all go out and buy?
Is there a speaker who is coming to town?
Do you have a question you're itching to ask?
Do you need help with the latest event you're planning?
Is there a link you want to share?
Is there something you'd like to say?

Make a post. Lets talk.
